Workforce Training for the Outdoor Industry

Oregon State University has worked hard to develop strong corporate and industry relationships ensuring our training programs are highly responsive to sector-specific workforce needs.

We also have a proven track record of building custom and non-credit workforce trainings, from self-paced learning opportunities to online continuing education classes and more. We are uniquely positioned to work with industry partners to develop these types of trainings for the outdoor recreation economy.

I'm excited about the future of the outdoor industry because I think it can solve a lot of problems that the country is facing maybe even the world and workforce is one of them. We need people to have jobs and to have careers that they're excited about. It’s not just getting paid and having a living wage that's important, but having purpose.
~ Jessica Wahl
“This initiative has been spurred on because of a loud and clear message from the outdoor industry that we need to be doing more to fill the opportunity gap. I would say we're already there. Companies are interested and what we need at this point is help refining exactly the type of training that will support their success ... they're bought in.”
~ Cailin O’Brien-Feeney

"I think a big part of what we're talking about is creating or filling in the gaps in the outdoor industry workforce. The more that we can invest in programs …. that prepare people for careers in the outdoor industry the better the candidate pool is going to be, the more diverse the candidate pool is going to be, and it's going to be beneficial for companies you know no matter what they do. "

~ Erin Gaines
