Partnering with Outdoor Organizations

In partnership with numerous outdoor companies, nonprofits, trade associations and government agencies, Oregon State University is in the process of building two critical training programs for the current and future workforce.

These programs represent the beginning phase of the Outdoor Recreation Economy Initiative as we continue to work with numerous stakeholders on developing industry-responsive programs.

Career Pathway Certificate Program

The Career Pathway Certificate Program is designed to help existing employees in the outdoor recreation economy prepare for and develop new and better jobs.

Secondarily, the project aims to help employers retain and upskill employees.

The program will be a combination of online coursework and in-person experiential “camp,” fully serviced, with integrated public service work aimed at character and community building.

The Career Pipeline Training Program is a model on how to train the future industry, agency and nonprofit workforce for this economy.

The program helps interested and passionate young adults (high school graduates or recent college graduates) who wish to move quickly into jobs in the outdoor recreation economy.

Training is designed to ensure that the learner gains the core competencies, experience and relationships necessary to succeed.
